Smart Energy GB in Communities Fund Opens for Applications

The fund has relaunched for 2017 with a focus on projects which specifically target and engage people over 65 who have no personal internet access.

The Smart Energy GB in Communities Fund is part of Smart Energy GB’s campaign to inform and inspire people about smart meters and the benefits they can bring. By 2020 every home in Britain will be offered a smart meter at no additional cost, and Smart Energy GB is responsible for helping everyone in Great Britain understand smart meters, the national rollout and how to use the new meters to get their gas and electricity under control.

The Smart Energy GB in Communities Fund is inviting applications from not-for-profit organisations that can help engage people and communities across Great Britain with smart meters and the rollout. Applicants must be working with people over 65 who have no personal internet access. They should be ‘a trusted voice’ in their community and be able to provide education, reassurance and direct support to people in this target group to help them address barriers around confidence in new technology with reference to smart meters.

Small grants of between £500 and £5,000 are available for projects that provide reassurance and handholding support to help older people understand and realise the benefits of smart meters. The grants could help support a range of activities, including incorporating smart meter messages into existing services and events or running specific advice sessions on smart meters.

Projects funded in round 1 must commence on or after 7 August 2017 and be completed by 1 December 2017.

The deadline for Round 1 applications is 19 July 2017 (5pm). Although a second round is expected open in August 2017, groups are encouraged to apply to the first round.

Smart Energy GB in Communities is delivered by a consortium of charities including the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF).
